Aquatics

  Lifeguard Training
Prepares lifeguard candidates in the skills and knowledge necessary to respond to aquatic emergencies, including CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and preventing disease transmission with a focus on decision-making, escape techniques, and backboard techniques. Prerequisites: Candidates must provide proof that they will be 15 years old before course completion. Must be able to pass a pre-course swim test: swim 300 yards continuously, using 200 yds of front crawl with rhythmic breathing and 100 yds of breaststroke. Must swim 20 yds using front crawl or breast stroke, dive 7 to 10 ft, retrieve 10lb object, return to surface and swim 20 yds back to starting point with both hands on the object and face above water, exit the pool without using a ladder or steps within 1 minute and 40 seconds. A $50 fee will be assessed for any student failing to meet the course pre-requisites.

  Lifeguarding Instructor
Learn to teach the Lifeguard Training course, including First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED Essentials, Oxygen Administration for the Professional Rescuer, Bloodborne Pathogens Training, and Community Water Safety. Prerequisites: Must be 17 years of age. Must bring proof that you have successfully completed FIT course (see above) or proof that you are a current, certified instructor. Must be able to pass the Swimming, Lifeguarding, First aid, and CPR-PR written and skills pre-course test. Obtain Lifeguard Training text to prepare for the pre-test. Certificates: Lifeguarding Instructor and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Instructor. A $50 fee will be assessed for any student failing to meet the course pre-requisites.

  Water Safety Instructor
Learn to teach American Red Cross Parent and Child Aquatics Program; the six levels of the Learn To Swim Program; and the Basic Water Rescue course. Prerequisites: Must be at least 16 years of age. Must bring proof that you have successfully completed FIT course (see above) or proof that you are a currently certified instructor. Successfully complete the pre-course written test and the pre-course test for swimming and water safety skills. These include 50yds. each of freestyle, backstroke, sidestroke, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, 10yds of butterfly, and perform a long shallow dive. (44HRS) A $50 fee will be assessed for any student failing to meet the course pre-requisites.
